A Picture is Worth...

Hey Gang! Since John spoke about my photos in his previous post, I thought I'd share a few. We held our first Sketch Society get-together two years ago!

Back then it was a sporadic event, but because it was so much fun and everyone wanted to do it more often, we decided to meet monthly last year.

We chose that the last Saturday of the month as the date for our informal gatherings. Most folks roll in between 12:30 and 1 and the party usually breaks up around 4 or 5pm.

The group selected the Java Junction in Holly Hill as the meeting spot. The food is good, inexpensive and the place enjoys having us. Nearly everyone that shows up has lunch [the sandwiches are really good] or purchases a snack, so it's a great deal all the way around. We have a location with room to spread out, wireless internet and it doesn't cost a thing.

Because we're a loose-knit group, there's no membership, no dues, no one calls the meeting to order and no rules about what you draw. You show up when you want [most folks attend regularly] and draw / sketch / paint what you want.

We've had "meetings" where members were working on everything from Marvel Sketch Cards to political cartoons to figure studies for art class to whatever came to mind. The members of the group range from professional artists with years of experience to high school and college students just discovering their talents.

So, if you're at all interested -- our next meeting will be August 30th. You'll hear more about it here -- and we hope to see you there!

Some of the photos are from the "Barnes and Noble" meeting, others, the ones with the big windows, are from our new "Java Junction" site!

As Craig mentioned, anything YOU wish to draw, sketch or even work on is acceptable. I'll probably be doing a few commission sketches at the upcoming meet, myself!

It's a fun way to pass some time and get out and share for awhile!
